When considering turf varieties for golf courses, there are many excellent varieties that may fit the bill. The choices now include many types of turf adaptable to the same environment and location. Ever considered using Zoysia on a green verses an Ultradwarf Bermuda or Paspalum? Many advances have been made in turf breeding and testing - and now these options are available within the market. I’ve advised many clients through the years on the choices available and why certain grasses are better suited for specific situations.

Every turf variety has a most desired environment. In many cases I find clients are interested in a certain parameter but are looking at the wrong turf to fit their needs. This will usually lead to failed expectations and a less-than-optimal outcome. There are many choices within the market for use on golf courses from tee to green. Whether it be an Ultradwarf like TifEagle or Mini Verde, a Paspalum like Platinum TE or SeaStar or the many Zoysia options within the market there’s one to fit every parameter. Selecting the right turf for the application is critical; I enjoy helping clients think through all factors that affect the turf selections for their project and lending my perspective to the selection process.
